Payne Carpentry have extensive experience in outbuildings. To find out more contact us today.

An outbuilding is a smaller separate building, sited on the same estate or grounds as the main house or dwelling. These can be sheds, garages, car ports, summerhouses, greenhouses and guest houses or temporary building structures.

  • Additional storage space

  • For those wishing to work from home, an outbuilding can provide the answer when space within the house is at a premium

  • A sympathetic and well-designed outside room will add value to your property

  • Some outbuildings won't require planning. Project dependent

Most outbuildings are constructed in a simpler manner than that of a residential building. Usually they are sited on a concrete ground bearing slab/raft foundation of 100mm-150mm thick as the structures are generally lightweight structures.
Many outbuildings will be prefabricated and delivered to site for onsite assembly by the carpenters, so it is important to ensure that HGV vehicular access is available. Traditional methods of construction are also used where space or cost is limited.
In general, outbuildings will be a single wall construction without the need of a cavity or insulation that habitable dwellings require by law.
As the constructions are generally lightweight it is important that they are adequately secured to the foundation ensuring protection in heavy winds and storms.
