WHAT IS TRUSS ROOFING?

Truss roof structures are made from a series of engineered prefabricated frameworks connected with braces and spreading bearers to create an entire roof structure. Designed to support the weight of the roof covering, each truss will be specifically calculated by the truss designer or structural engineer to meet its purpose. Trusses should never be removed or altered without the advice of a structural engineer.

Truss roofing systems are the most common systems used in the modern era as they are usually the quickest and cheapest way of achieving a complete roof structure.   The invention of trusses is not a new concept to say the least as heavy weight trusses such as Kings trusses etc have been included in roof designs since the early days of building design, the modern trusses are of a far lighter construction and far more convenient in every way.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF A TRUSS ROOF?

  • Most trusses are designed by a structural engineer, this ensures that imposing loads are supported.
  • Prefabricated trusses can reduce the overall construction project duration.
  • Prefabricated trusses are cheaper to purchase than the materials required to create a cut roof and installation times are also cheaper.
  • Using trusses offer flexibility in design without too many restrictions.
  • Prefabricated trusses can save on storage space on site as the can be delivered on the day of installation and lifted straight on to the installation area.
  • Low site waste as very little cutting is required on site.

WHAT IS THE INSTALLATION PROCESS OF A TRUSS ROOF?

The roof trusses would be delivered on a HGV and unloaded by mechanical means such as a tele-handler or crane, all deliveries would be managed and overseen by Payne Carpentry in accordance with a pre-considered & detailed site specific method statement for the relevant works. The roof trusses will be loaded to the roof zone under the close control of a trained Slinger banksman to ensure that safe working methods are always adhered to.

Working with the detailed design plans and manufacturers design information, our experienced carpenters will site each truss rafter accurately to the required position of the roof design using all of the fixing brackets and requirements that have been predetermined and instructed by the relevant design members. The roof trusses will be erected perfectly upright and braced in accordance to the relevant design instructions. Prior to any works being considered as completed, the installation process would be inspected by a Payne Carpentry Site Supervisor and then offered to the relevant authorities for approval and sign off.
