WHAT IS ICF SERVICES?
ICF is Insulated Concrete formwork.
This is a relatively modern system that many different companies supply, although the basics of the system are very similar by design and usage. ICF systems are made up of a series of interlocking, lightweight, polystyrene hollow block formers. These formers will contain metal reinforcement bar that is erected a storey height at a time to the footprint and openings of the structure.
WHAT IS THE INSTALLATION PROCESS?
The lightweight blocks are set out to the floor layout drawings and fastened using proprietary clips. These clips are placed at set positions to ensure that the blocks do not part when filled with concrete. Prefabricated corner, intersection and radius blocks are used where walls change direction or thickness. Blocks are staggered when placed on top of each other to form the additional courses.
The blocks are then braced, propped, and strutted to withstand the outward forces that will be imposed to the structure when the concrete is pumped into the hollow of the blocks.
The concrete when cured forms a single skin structural wall, with the insulation remaining in position to meet sound and thermal standards required by building regulations.
There are no cavities with such designs and a range of wall thicknesses can be achieved to suit load bearing and structural requirements. The internal walls will be battened vertically to form a service void for mechanical and electrical services, which are then covered with plaster boarded to create a finished wall.
Externally the walls can be finished several ways, from render, brick facades, cladding etc.
