Timber cladding is typically fitted to timber battens installed either vertically or horizontally depending on the orientation of your cladding.
These battens should be treated timber, as they will be installed to the exterior of the building and will be exposed to the weather. The thickness and width of the battens also depends on the design specification and manufacturer’s guidelines.
It is important to apply a breathable membrane to the battens to allow both materials to breath, preventing any damp spots appearing on the cladding. It is also equally important to install the insect mesh at the bottom of your timber battens to prevent nesting etc.
The cladding can be installed to the manufacturer's recommendation and in-line with the design specification.
Once all the Cladding has been fitted the symmetrical corners can be fitted to all external corners of the building where two elevations of cladding meet. For those elevations that meet a different finish I.e. brick or render you can fit a stop end trim which covers the exposed cuts of the cladding.
Asymmetrical trims are corner trim for your windows and doors these have two different size returns to allow the window and or doors to still operate whilst having a cladded reveal.
