WHAT ARE INTERNAL SLIDING DOORS?
Internal Sliding doors are mainly used to provide privacy to a room space, but they can also provide sound and thermal control. These are installed on a rail where they can be enclosed, or on show, depending on the type of sliding mechanisation used. Internal sliding doors can be made to suit any design finish.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF INTERNAL SLIDING DOORS?
They can act as a noise barrier
They can act as a temperature control barrier
Depending on the style can really finish a room and add character
Glazed doors allow for light transfer from one to room to another
No need to worry about height restriction on access as all materials can be delivered on a flat bed
Rooms with limited space can still have privacy due to a sliding door not needing floor space to operate
WHAT IS THE INSTALLATION PROCESS OF INTERNAL SLIDING DOORS?
There are various methods of installing a sliding door. Most are set up, so the door is on the face of a wall and supported from a top rail above the head of the door, which is guided by a base rail set flush to the floor finish. The door will simply slide across an opening or aperture. Often the ironworks installed above the head of the door will be concealed, leaving a pelmet effect. This style of sliding door will be installed after the walls have been completed and fully plastered or dry lined.
An increasingly popular design regarding sliding doors is referred to as pocket doors, this is a neater and cleaner looking version of a sliding door as the door is set in the middle of the wall thickness and when open is hidden from view, as is the required iron works that control the door.
This style of sliding door will need to be installed as the wall is built.
External sliding doors are commonly used on patio and balcony doors particularly where a lack of space is available to open a door from a conventional hinge. Often clients prefer sliding doors as they are not susceptible to being blown around in heavier winds whilst open.
