WHAT ARE EXTERNAL DOORS?
External doors typically have a more demanding role than internal doors as they are exposed to outside weather conditions and must protect the interior from the elements as well as from intrusion.
Generally external timber doors will be thicker than internal doors and are far more robust in structure, as will the ironworks and door furniture. There are many different types of external door designs depending on the specific purpose required and the visual appearance desired.
In terms of materials, timber is widely used for external doors, but more recently, composite PVC doors and powder coated aluminium doors are a popular alternative.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF EXTERNAL DOORS?
An external wooden door can make for a grand entrance to the home that's both secure and energy efficient
One of the biggest gains of a composite door is that it doesn’t require time-consuming and costly maintenance to keep it in perfect condition
Enhanced security of a composite door such as anti-drill, anti-pick and anti-snap cylinder make these a popular choice for residential buildings
WHAT IS THE INSTALLATION PROCESS OF EXTERNAL DOORS?
Door installation is a second fix carpentry works item, these works will commence after wall finishes such as plastering and dry lining are fully complete and adequate drying time has passed, ensuring that the moisture content of the property is that of a habitable space.
In many cases with external doors to new build properties a temporary door will be installed during the construction phase to make the property secure from intrusion. The finished doors will often be installed just prior to decoration, avoiding potential damage to the finished door with materials loading and waste removal during the build.
To explain all the procedures and processes required to successfully hang any door would lead to chapter and verse, and the truth is, lots of practise is required to master this ability in an efficient way.
